24: Jack and Tony together again

Jack Bauer is back in action! He’s still in trouble with the government, mind you, but thankfully the FBI gave him a break from his trial to help find newly-resurrected-and-turned-bad guy Tony Almeida. Jack does find Tony and, after almost strangling his old friend in the interrogation room, learns that Tony is actually deep undercover with Bill–former head of CTU–and Chloe, two characters we all know and love.  Talk about a relief to learn that Tony wasn’t actually the super villain!  Even if we later learn that he did sincerely join the baddies after they brought him back to life, I was just happy to know he’s on the right side now.

Meanwhile, the FBI headquarters seem to have replaced the old CTU as the informational home base, so we get to know a lot of new characters this season. I really like Janeane Garofalo’s character, Janis, for having those same Chloe qualities of nerdy and smart meets cynical dry wit. Of course I hate her weasel co-worker Sean, who as suspected is cheating on his wife; yes, the same wife he just lied and faked clearance for in order to save her from a potential airline crisis (the one the bad guys are threatening the president with). That Sean guy is up to no good, and I would not be surprised if he’s one of the FBI moles.

The new madame president is awesome.  It’s so nice having a good president again, after that evil, manipulative one from last season.  And I like how even though she’s new to office, she doesn’t let her cabinet boss her around with big decisions like the troops in Songola.  I’m convinced that her right-hand man Ethan is heading up this whole conspiracy, the same one that killed her son and has now killed her husband, but that’s just my hunch.  My husband doesn’t seem to agree with me.  This show always freaks me out with all the corrupted government characters; it makes me wonder how much of that really goes on.

Back to Jack.  He’s now on board with Bill, Tony and Chloe, going undercover with Tony, Emerson and the guys working with African dictator Dubaku.  I hate it when Jack has to play bad because he gets into predicaments like the one this week, where he had to kill and bury Renee Walker, the FBI agent he’s been working with, the same one I hope he hooks up with by the end of the season, with his “boss” watching the whole thing go down.  I still don’t know how she’s going to survive being shot in the neck and practically buried alive at that construction site.

24 is on Mondays, 9pm PST on Fox
