Star Trek the Movie

Oh my gosh you guys, I LOVED this movie.  It was beyond awesome and I’m not a Trekkie/Trekker.  I’ve watched a smattering of TNG (The Next Generation) and I have never seen a Star Trek movie so I went into this with very little background.  Of course I’ve heard of Captain Kirk and Spock.  Who hasn’t.  But I don’t know their characters or personalities and my viewing experience wasn’t lacking in the least.

The story begins before Spock or Kirk join the Federation.  They are both living separate lives and doing totally contrary things but are then forced together on an awesome adventure.

The special effects in this movie are breath taking because it’s all made up.  They are fighting battles in space on ships that don’t exist.  It’s incredible.

I remember Scott read a review from a Trekkie/Trekker who was complaining about the film because it was “accessible and humorous.”  How funny is that?  They were right though.  The movie is totally accessible.  You don’t need to know anything going into it except that it’s fabulous.

Perfect date night movie for me but I like the action stuff myself.  I highly recommend this movie.  It’s not too geeky.  It gets you going from the opening scene.  Man, I love Summer movies!!

Anyone else catch it this weekend?

I saw the preview last week and before I realized what it was I wanted to see the movie. When I realized it was Star Trek, I sent my husband a text and told him I wanted to see it. He was a little surprised!

We can’t wait to go. Thanks for the review!

I went on some of those trekkie sites myself and I think they’re just being anal. Being a little bit of a trek nerd myself I can tell you they did a really good job incorporating characters and storylines from past episodes into the movie. Not only that, but I think if you’d never seen a star trek episode in your life you’d still walk out thinking it was an absolute fabulous movie. I LOVED it- there wasn’t a single boring moment, and it was everything I love about Star Trek in the first place. Lot’s of tense moments, a little scary, tons of action, a tiny bit of romance, and just enough funny. For once a movie lived up to every bit of hype it’s received.

I forgot to mention, I remembered where I recognized young James Kirk from- I just watched it on the Family channel last week- he was in Princess Diaries 2.
