Dead Like Me

51aUC98F6SL._SS500_I am so mad.  I just got into this show and come to find out it’s a Sci-Fi Channel show that is just running reruns on FOX.  It’s not fair for cable channels to parade their shows around and taunt us with great TV when we can’t access them.  Really not nice.

The show follows a girl named George who is dead but somehow (I missed the first show) ended up as a Reaper.   So she has a body still and interacts with the living world, it’s just her job, and her friend’s jobs, to find people who are dying and escort their souls to the afterlife.  A dark comedy but really intriguing.

This show certainly isn’t for everyone because people die, sometimes gruesomely, in each episode.  But there’s never any gore.  There are a group of Reapers that all hang out together and the show gives us glimpses into what they were like when they were alive.

Every time a serious subject is broached they brush it off.  They don’t tackle any religious ideas about the after life, they only guide souls to it.

I was planning on watching all these reruns and then blogging about the new shows that air but that obviously isn’t going to happen so I just want to let you know this show is on and it’s (I was going to say really fun but that doesn’t really describe it because it’s dark).  I’ll just say I really enjoy watching it.

Reruns of Dead Like Me are on Sundays at 1pm on FOX. Or check out the Sci Fi Channel on Tuesday nights at 7pm and 8pm.  I don’t know if those are reruns or not.  Their site wasn’t very helpful.

**Update:  Thanks Laura for the idea.  I went on Netflix and they have Seasons One and Two and the Movie that you can watch instantly.  Awesome, now I can actually find out how George became a Reaper.  Maybe this means it’s no longer running on the Sci-Fi Channel.  I don’t know.  You’ll have to tell me if you check it out.

I actually caught an episode when I was at my parents a while back(my brother’s really into the sci-fi channel) and had the hardest time figuring out what was going on. I think this is one you have to watch from the beginning to understand- I’ll have to check to see if it’s streaming on netflix.

So, there are quite a few reapers around, and on their very last reap (which they have no idea when it will be), the person they reap becomes a reaper in their place… so, that’s how she became one. She was someone’s last reap. It’s really interesting- but a dark comedy. My husband really liked it (it didn’t last very long.) I watched a few with him, but i didn’t love it.
