The Biggest Loser 8: Week 1

Screen shot 2009-09-16 at 11.26.05 AMLast night was the premiere of the 8th season of The Biggest Loser. And, following suit with other shows, this season promises to be bigger and better than the last. Literally. In the past, we’ve seen girls go on the show who weigh between 200 and 220 pounds. Last night, the lightest person weighed in at 247 pounds, and the heaviest person in Biggest Loser history (a woman!) weighed in at 476 lbs! That is almost a half-ton!! Wow.

Although it takes me a few episodes to really get into the show, and choose my favorites, there are definitely a few standouts. Abby. She lost her husband, daughter, and 2 1/2 week old son in a car accident! Oh. My. Gosh. How could you even find the strength to go on living? So, to say the least, I really want her to go far.

And then there’s Daniel. I think most of us felt like he was gypped last season when his past partner didn’t pull his weight. So, I’m pulling for him this time too. And, did you see how happy the other contestants were to see him? Between that, and having Bob and Jillian train ALL the contestants together, I think this will make for a team-effort season, with much less nasty game-play.

After having 2 contestants hospitalized on the first day, it will be interesting to see what happens. It’s not anything new- many people pass out after having NEVER worked out in their life. But Tracey never even made it to the weigh-in. We’ll see what happens!

I’m so excited for this season. This is one of the first times I’ve watched the premiere, and I’m already sucked in. Love it.

I was a mess when Abby told her story- an absolute crying, sobbing, mess. The strength it would take to be on a show and tell that story, I’m really pulling for her too. You can tell she needs some direction. I’m absolutely loving this season so far, and I’m so glad they’ve steered away from the “game play” strategy- I always hated that the show felt too much like an overweight survivor.

I am really wondering what’s up with Tracey because if it was just simple dehydration she would have been out of the hospital by now. It’ll be interesting to see if she makes it back- and it was awesome to see coach Mo carry that team.
Ultimately I think that even though Julio didn’t try as hard as Alexandria I’m glad she went home because it really seemed like she was young enough to do it on her own, which she obviously has.
I too was a sobbing mess over that car accident story, ugh so heartbreaking.

When I tuned in on Tuesday I just couldn’t sit still. I couldn’t get into it at all and I just wanted to watch my CW shows. I’m so glad I gave it a shot today. I was a crying mess pretty much the whole show. This is going to be a great season!
