The Mentalist: Clown

Can I just tell you how happy I am that this show is back? Man, doTHE MENTALIST I love Patrick Jane, especially when he’s being lippy and arrogant and driving Lisbon crazy like he was doing a lot of last night.  And speaking of Lisbon, does she look hot or what?  Clearly the show has a little more money to pump into the sophomore season’s hair and make-up.  Van Pelt looks a little more glammed up, too, and even Rigsby looks like he’s sporting a new do.   Love it.

Anyway,  I liked how they started off the season with a bang by pulling the team off the Red John case and turning it over to the big jerk and obvious new foil for Jane, Bosco.  That guy is mean.  I couldn’t believe the way he threw Patrick’s own interviews about his wife and daughter’s deaths right back in his face.  Pretty low.  But I must confess I loved how that little part of the plot lead to Jane almost quitting and getting into some good spats with Lisbon.  I love it when those two fight.  p.s. I’m still harboring hope that those two will hook up one of these days.

The case with Monica Dunninger’s death definitely surprised me.  I hadn’t pictured the mom stealing all that money for her cancer-stricken kid after she’d already abandoned the whole family.  Boy, did that daughter have some serious anger toward her mom.  And while she was certainly justified to some degree, you’d think the 5,000 dollars a month her mom had been sending her would have assuaged that pain at least a little.  How did she keep that fact from her dad, too?  Was he really that checked out and aloof?  How did he think they were getting by with all those medical bills?

I’m curious to see where things will go with the Red John case, and I’m excited to see Bosco as a regular on the show.  He’ll make for some good tension and conflict.
