Man v Food: Boise

DSCN3642That’s right, I said Boise, ID.  I’ve never been but I’m sure at least one of you has.  Tell us if you’ve been where Adam has.

Adam’s first stop is Big Jud’s, home of the massive Double Big Jud, a burger featuring two Frisbee-sized patties. Next, he visits Flying Pie, a staple in Boise since 1978 known for their unique pizza concoctions. But one of their most original, and definitely the spiciest, is the triple habanero pie.  Each pizza is topped with eighteen insanely hot peppers, to assure that every bite is a mouth melting adventure.

Just downing one triple habanero pie is a challenge, but an even bigger challenge awaits Adam at Rockies Diner. He’s taking on their Johnny B. Goode: three burger patties topped with pastrami, a hotdog, cheese, and chili, plus a huge order of chili cheese fries and a sixteen-ounce milkshake. If Adam can finish in thirty minutes, he wins a brand new guitar. Will Adam rock out with a victory, or will the Johnny B. Goode leave him singing the blues?

Are there any food challenges in your neck of the woods that you would like Adam to try?

Man v Food is on Wednesdays at 10pm on The Travel Channel.

Man v Food: Springfield

Adam’s first stop in Springfield is to Cozy Dog Drive-In, which is a historical diner on iconic Route 66. This place is literally the “home of the corn dog” as rumor has it they invented this tasty batter-covered hot dog. Adam gets to see the homemade invention the restaurant still uses to fry ‘em up. The diner serves up over 500 cozy dogs every day!

Next up Adam visits D’Arcy’s Pint for a Springfield specialty: the horseshoe. What the heck is a horseshoe? Only one of the best hangover foods around! It’s an open-faced sandwich made with Texas toast, your favorite meat (hamburger is the most popular), a mound of crinkle fries, and homemade cheese sauce. D’Arcy’s makes over 700 horseshoes a day in over 500 variations!

For the main challenge, Adam hits up Joe Rogers Chili Parlor to try the Firebrand Chili Challenge. This extra hot chili is 9x hotter than the normal chili they serve. Tens of thousands have tried to eat it, but only 2,000 have succeeded in finishing one bowl. Adam is upping the ante by trying to beat the current record of 5 bowls of this fire-hot food. Will he do it?

Man v Food is on Wednesdays at 10pm on The Travel Channel.

Man v Food: Sarasota

Adam’s first stop is to The Old Salty Dog on City Island to try their specialty, which he describes as the “hungry man’s holy grail”. The restaurant’s cuisine is a mix between English pub grub and fresh local fish. Adam is there to try (in his words)”the exact perfect companion to beer”, the Salty Dog. This is a foot-long hot dog, covered in beer batter, and then fried. Oh, but that’s not all…you can get it with the works (cheese, onions, and bacon).

Next, Adam visits Yoder’s Restaurant to feast on their Amish comfort food and amazing pies. He eats dinner first, which is some of the juiciest fried chicken he’s ever tasted. How do they keep it so moist? They use a pressure fryer! Then for dessert Adam helps make (and taste) their famous peanut butter creme pie.  Yoder’s makes 130 pies every day, all from scratch.

For his final stop, Adam heads over to Munchies 4:20 Cafe for his mystery challenge. The restaurant owner himself wouldn’t try this challenge. What is it?   As you guys know I don’t have The Travel Channel anymore so please let me know about the mystery challenge.

Man v Food is on Wednesdays at 10pm on The Travel Channel.

Man v Food: Honolulu

man-v-foodYou think Wimpy’s Grill from the Durham episode had some interesting burgers? They ain’t got nothin’ on the Hukilau Cafe, which is Adam’s first stop. This place has delicious burger creations that are ‘worth crossing the Pacific for’.  Their Hukilau Burger includes a beef patty, fried egg, grilled onions, and a piece of teriyaki beef. As Adam says, ‘Nothing goes better with beef than beef’. Their other special is the Loco Moco: 2 beef patties over rice, topped with 2 fried eggs and then drenched with brown gravy. This dish is so popular, it’s eaten for breakfast, lunch, and dinner!

Next up is Helena’s Hawaiin Food. This place serves up authentic Hawaiin food using recipes that have remained all in the family. What’s amazing is none of these recipes are written down. The head chef (grandson of the original owner) just adjusts the flavor of his dishes by taste! Here Adam tries the kalua pig and pipikaula short rib. YUM!

The main challenge, according to Adam, is “the doughiest I’ve ever faced”. He heads to MAC 24-7 to take on the Mac Daddy Pancake Challenge: 3 pancakes, 14 inches wide, weighing 4 pounds, covered in toppings that must be downed in less than 90 minutes. Adam chooses blueberries and vanilla cream for his toppings, which is pretty smart given his other options were chocolate, nuts, coconut and pineapple. Will the New York Daddy Mac be able to finish the Honolulu Mac Daddy? You’ll have to watch to see!

Man v Food is on Wednesdays at 10pm on The Travel Channel.

Man v Food: Charleston

man-v-foodCharleston, SC is known for serving the freshest and tastiest seafood around, so Adam hits three local joints to test this statement for himself.  First up is Hominy Grill, which Adam describes as a “true culinary landmark”. The menu includes such tasty items as boiled peanuts and she-crab soup, but it’s all about the shrimp and grits! Adam is so thrilled by the flavor that he hugs the chef after exclaiming, “It’s absolutely out of this world!”.  A trip to Hominy Grill wouldn’t be complete without at least seeing “The Big Nasty”.  Ironically, this sandwich doesn’t sound nasty at all!  It’s made with fried chicken on a biscuit with melted cheese and smothered in a ladle of sausage gravy. Now THAT’S Southern cooking!

Next up Adam heads to Bowens Island where “fresh” seafood is an understatement. They get their famous oysters from the mud flats just minutes away from the restaurant.  Adam actually harvests his own oysters with a 60-year veteran.  The steamed oysters at Bowens were able to redeem Adam’s love for oysters after the ‘Acme Oyster Challenge’ in New Orleans last season. (He ate 15-dozen oysters!).

The main event for this episode takes place at Bushido Restaurant. (Side note: did you know Bushido means ‘way of the warrior’?).  There are over 100 sushi restaurants in Charleston, but none of them pack as much heat as this one. Adam is here to try the Spicy Tune Handroll Challenge: 10 sushi rolls that get hotter (spicier) as you eat. 475 people have tried this challenge and only 8 have succeeded.  Adam has a pretty good track record for spicy challenges, but will he succeed? He just might if he remembers this solid advice, “Don’t smell it, just eat it”.

Man v Food is on Wednesdays at 10pm on The Travel Channel.

**I talked to my lady at the marketing firm and she says she’ll try to get a list of upcoming locations but that the network guards that list pretty heavily.  They don’t want too many people showing up while they’re filming.  I’ll let you know if I find anything out.

Man v Food: Las Vegas

I have three words for you: Big Badass Burrito (aka B3). But let me back up a minute. In the words of Adam Richman himself, “Sin City has got some sinfully good grub” and we’re not talking about all of the high-class celebrity dining.

Adam’s first stop is at Hash House A Go Go. He affectionately refers to this morning hot spot as the place “where Willy Wonka eats breakfast”.  Adam is here to try their famous fried chicken eggs benedict. You have to see it to believe it.

Next up Adam hits Hot N Juicy Crawfish where the secret sauce keeps the restaurant busy and the diners full. Crawfish in the landlocked Sin City? Yep! They fly in fresh crawfish from Louisiana every morning.  Also, is there a wedding in Adam’s future?

For the main challenge, Adam heads over to NASCAR Cafe where he takes on the Big Badass Burrito: a 2 foot long, 6 pound mammoth of a burrito with all the fixins. 140 people have battled this beast, but only 2 have succeeded. Adam has 90 minutes to chow down. What’s at stake? If he wins –> unlimited rides for life on their speed roller coaster. If he loses –> he has to wear a pink shirt with “Certified Weenie” on the front. Will he be able to finish in time?

Man v Food: San Antonio

I know I’m posting this too late in the day to catch most of you but I’m hoping at least somebody will remember to watch Man v Food tonight.  We had free cable for a while with the Travel Channel but sadly it was taken away and now we only have basic so I wont be able to watch it but I’ll still post the previews the network sends me because I LOVE THIS SHOW.

In case you didn’t catch last season Adam (the host) travels around America and showcases the food in different cities.  He always ends the show by taking on a ridiculous food challenge.  It could be eating the biggest something or the spiciest something.  It doesn’t matter which one it is it always ends up in hilarity.  Adam is so funny and the things he eats are totally ludicrous and I’m really going to miss this show.

Adam travels to the Lone Star state in this brand new episode of Man v. Food. First, he visits Lulu’s Bakery and Cafe for a 48-oz. chicken-fried steak known as The Police Chief Special before going to town on their 3 1/2-lb. cinnamon roll. Then he goes to Big Lou’s Pizza for a 42 in., 3 1/2-foot wide, 70-lb. mega pizza piled high with toppings. Think you can actually toss dough for a 77oz. pie?

Finally, he heads to Chunky’s Burgers for his showdown with the Four Horsemen Challenge – a fiery burger topped with the world’s hottest peppers. Can Adam pull it off or will he end up in the Chunky’s Burgers hall of shame?

Man v Food is on at Wednesdays at 10pm on the Travel Channel.

Man v Food: Minneapolis

blogthedayawaycomTonight Adam heads to the Land of a Thousand Lakes to chow down on cheeseburgers—but in Minneapolis, they put the cheese inside the burger. They’re called Juicy Lucys, and the regional staple is so popular that two restaurants each claim to have invented it. Adam visits Matt’s Bar and the 5-8 Club to get to the bottom of the Juicy Lucy’s origin.

Next, it’s over to Brasa Premium Rotisserie for the freshest meats in town … plus, Adam chows down on a roasted suckling pig with a special surprise guest (check out the picture for a hint). And finally, Adam goes for some authentic German-style fare at Gasthof zur Gemütlichkeit , where he’ll take on the Meterbratwurst Challenge: he has to eat a 40-inch long bratwurst and two sides to earn eternal glory and a boot of beer.

Will Adam polish off a metric yard of meat, or will he go home red-faced?

Man v Food is on Wednesdays at 10pm PT on the Travel Channel.

Man v Food: Denver

picture-22This week, Adam’s culinary quest brings him to the Mile-High City to chow down on the best burgers in Denver at Duffy’s Cherry Cricket , where you can create countless combinations from their 21 toppings–including eggs, jalapenos, and cream cheese. Then, Adam descends upon Denver’s oldest restaurant–the Buckhorn Exchange , whose menu spans the animal kingdom from rattlesnake to ostrich.  He’ll sample some yak and elk before sitting down for the 64-ounce Big Steak. And of course no visit to Denver would be complete without sampling some Rocky Mountain oysters.

Finally, Adam hits up Jack and Grill for a showdown with the biggest burrito in the West: seven potatoes, a pound of ham, a dozen eggs, a whole onion, and cheese, all under ten ounces of spicy green chili. Over 2000 brave souls have attempted to conquer this bronco-bustin’ burrito and only a hundred have succeeded. Will Adam earn his spot on Jack and Grill’s Wall of Fame?

Man v Food is normally on Wednesdays at 10pm PT but this episode will air this Wednesday at 7pm and 11pm on the Travel Channel.

Man v Food: San Jose

picture-11That’s right.  Adam came right to my backdoor and I didn’t even know it.  I am so excited to see where he’s gone in SJ.  Here’s the Travel Channel’s blurb:

This week, Adam Richman’s chow down quest brings him to the capital of Silicon Valley: San Jose, California. He makes his first stop at Henry’s World Famous Hi-Life , where open pit steaks and barbecue have been grilled up for nearly 50 years. Adam settles on Hi-Life’s baby back ribs. One rack is the length of his forearm, packed with dry rub spices, and both steamed and grilled to perfection. After licking his fingers clean, Adam is off to Iguana’s Burritozilla, the place for burritos in San Jose. The biggest beast on the menu is Iguana’s namesake: the Burritozilla. At over 5 pounds and 17 inches, downing this burrito is one serious challenge.

But Adam’s challenge is still ahead of him. Smoke Eaters is host to a wing challenge so hot that it isn’t even on the menu. To defeat the Hellfire Challenge, Adam must eat 12 wings drenched in a blend of sauces and spices, the most potent of which is ground habanero peppers. But Adam has to do more than stomach these firecrackers. He has to survive a brutal five-minute waiting period afterwards. No napkin, no beverage, nothing to ease the pain. Can Adam beat the heat, or will he go down in flames?

Man v Food is on Wednesdays at 10pm PST on The Travel Channel.

Man v Food: St Louis

picture-44Adam has only five more food challenges to take on this season.
Wednesday night he will be in St. Louis to take on The Malt Milkshake challenge at Crown Candy Kitchen.  But
first, Adam visits Pappy’s Smokehouse
for some Memphis Style BBQ.  All their meals are slow smoked for 4-14
hours and then served with one of their three delicious sauces.  Next
Adam visits Iron Barley for a traditional, yet unusual, American cuisine.

For the main challenge, Adam must drink five 24-ounce malted milkshakes in 30 minutes at Crown Candy Kitchen.  Brain freeze anyone?

This is Why You’re Fat

i2dw5nf19josf5ous90fwcxpo1_500This is a new blog that my husband found and it’s pictures of huge, grotesque meals that some people eat.  Part of me is totally cracking up because who in their right mind puts corn dogs on a pizza but I have to be honest, some of the food grosses me out to the extreme.  Like the Turbaconucken which is a chicken inside a duck inside a turkey, all wrapped in bacon.  I’ve heard of the turkey, chicken, duck combination before but wrapped in bacon.  Oh my gosh, that makes my insides squirm.

The bi-line of the blog is “Where dreams become heart attacks.”  True that!  This just reminded me of the show I’ve told you about, Man vs Food, where the host Adam eats ridiculous amounts of food.  During the beginning of the show he doesn’t do any challenges but he eats these types of large portions of food.  It’s so gross.  Except of course when he eats something sweet, then I’m all over it.

Since we’re talking about Man v Food here’s this weeks synospis:

Adam’s chow-down quest brings him to Seattle, Washington this week for a big, breakfast challenge.  But first, he visits Red Mill Burgers, which has been serving up delicious milkshakes, onion rings (voted best in the country), and a wide variety of award-winning burgers.  Since Adam can’t leave Seattle without sampling some Pacific-fresh seafood, his next stop is The Crab Pot. Here, fried fish lovers devour the Captain’s Combo, an overflowing plate of shrimp, cod, halibut, clam strips, and calamari.

Hopefully Adam saves some room for this week’s challenge: the Southwestern Exposure at Beth’s Cafe.  Open since 1954, Beth’s is a Seattle institution.  The challenge is a 12-egg omelet filled with cheddar cheese, sour cream, salsa, and beef brisket chili.  Normally, only one person takes on this challenge at a time, but Adam is going head to head with someone who has already defeated this breakfast behemoth.  The first to finish the omelet wins.  Does Adam have what it takes to beat one of Seattle’s best eaters?

Man vs Food is on Wednesdays at 10pm on the Travel Channel.

Check out This is Why You’re fat here.  I want you to look at this site and tell me if some of it doesn’t look desish and some of it doesn’t gross you out.  Which ones?  I want to know which ones you’d actually eat.  I’d like to try the deep fried coca cola.

Man v Food: NYC

Adam starts this week’s adventure at Katz’s Delicatessen, one of the oldest and most prestigious delis in the country.  On the menu are staples such as matzo ball soup, knishes, and massive one-pound sandwiches of corned beef or pastrami.  After eating on the Lower East Side, it’s off to Harlem to a soul food icon.  Sylvia’s restaurant is one of the best spots for home-cooked comfort food.  Adam tries two of their best dishes: spicy barbecue ribs and world famous fried chicken and waffles.

The main event is HOT this week.  Adam visits Brick Lane Curry House to take on the Phaal Challenge.  The phaal curry is so hot that you need a gas mask to prepare it (I’m not kidding!).  Even with no time limit, it defeats nearly nine out of ten challengers.  Can Adam take the heat?

Man v Food is on Wednesdays, 10pm PST on the Travel Channel.
