So You Think You Can Dance 6: Top 8 Results

Screen shot 2009-12-10 at 4.14.00 PMWell, I guess after watching The Biggest Loser Finale, and then watching Glee’s finale, I knew I couldn’t have it all go my way. And the results last night were pretty much the opposite of what I would have liked to have happen. Granted, my ultimate favorites made the finale. However, looking back, I really think it should have been Ashleigh who went home. I know it’s not fair that she go home just because she didn’t dance. BUT, it’s not fair that she gets to slide right through, and 2 of the people who had the BEST routines of the season went home.

Yes, I realize that’s my opinion. But did you see how absolutely shocked Adam was to see Mollee go home? I agree with everything he said… she peaked last night, but apparently it was just too late. And I don’t think I have ever, in the history of So You Think You Can Dance, seen anyone cry as hard as Mollee did last night. It was heart-breaking to see her sobbing. I know she’s never been one of my favorites. (I think she initially came off as too young and immature.) But I probably would have chosen her over Ashleigh and Kathryn. Even though she’s young and bubbly, I think she has more personality than Kathryn.

And Legacy wasn’t the best dancer ever… but if you compared his and Ryan’s solo- really?! Come on. Legacy is amazing to watch. I think Ryan was the only one to do the exact same solo as the night before. Everyone else had something new. Lame.

Well, I hope the finale makes up for my disappointment this week. How about you? Are any of your favorites left?

So You Think You Can Dance 6: Top 8 Perform

Screen shot 2009-12-09 at 6.47.33 PMFinally!! A night full of routines that I LOVED. And I didn’t just love them. Two of the routines were, hands-down!, my favorite routines of the season… even make my top 5 favorites of all time. Those routines were the Viennese waltz, performed by Jakob and Mollee, and the contemporary “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” routine performed by Legacy and Ellenore. I thought both were absolutely fabulous! I really don’t have much else to say. I just loved them! It finally made watching the show fun again! (I’ve been so bored lately).

And all the rest of the routines were all very good as well! With the exception of one… Tab and Napoleon’s. :( It truly was heart-breaking for me to watch a routine by them that I just didn’t like. They usually have a great story, and the movement and music is so complementary I have yet to dislike a routine by them. (Until now). Not only was it a little strange, but it just didn’t have anything impressive about it. The dancing didn’t even seem like dancing. I am really hoping that people voted for Legacy and Ellenore based off their first performance. Because, to me, to get a second routine like they got, it had nothing to do with them, and was all about the choreography. Sad.

Lastly, I want to mention that it will be quite interesting to have a finale with 6 dancers instead of 4. In fact, I don’t really like it. I think “America’s favorite” dancer won’t be as accurate, because the votes will be split between 6 people, instead of 4. And someone might have a strong feeling about 2 of the dancers, which would be greatly affected if one wasn’t in the finale.

And what do you think about Ashleigh not dancing? I just don’t know if her fan-base is big enough to withstand not performing the week before a finale. Especially when all the numbers were fabulous! If I had to choose, I’d say right now, my favorite girl is Ellenore, and my favorite guy is Jakob. But, I can’t deny that I just LOVE Russell. And I thought he did especially well last night. Seriously- both his hip hop and Bollywood were awesome!

If you see this before the results tonight, let me know who you’re rooting for. Does Ashleigh deserve a spot in the finale? If I could pick, I’d send Ryan home tonight. We’ll see…

So You Think You Can Dance 6: Top 14 Results

Screen shot 2009-11-19 at 1.26.05 PMWell, I have to admit, it was so late, I watched almost the entire show on fast-forward, and only stopped to see who were the bottom 3 couples, watch them dance, and then see who the judges decided to send home. And, not that you care, but why did I do that? Because, last night, I was actually AT the So You Think You Can Dance Season 5 Tour Concert! (And it was awesome!) But, I’ll come back to that.

So, apparently I was WAY off about the bottom 3 couples… other than Kevin and Karen. And, honestly, I didn’t really agree with whir evaluation after they danced for their lives. Yes, it was Kevin’s time to go. I don’t think he is anywhere near the caliber of “hip hop” dancers from the last couple seasons. So, I’m not sad about that. But I was totally disappointed with the girls results. I know some people love Karen (Alisa included), but I just don’t see the appeal that the judges see. In my opinion, if fans aren’t voting for her, then she shouldn’t keep being saved by the judges… it’s just not fair to others who happened to fall in the bottom for the first time. And to be completely honest, I actually thought Channing had a rockin’ solo. They praised Mollee, but didn’t her solo seem desperate in the gymnastics-department? I was shocked when they saved her first. I thought either she or Karen should have gone home. I felt like Channing is finally proving why she’s there, and with another week or 2, I think she would have started to develop a fan-base. So, I’m bummed about that.

With that said, and having gone to Season 5’s concert last night, I now really feel like this season’s dancers need to start stepping it up. It’s already the top 14 (actually top 12 now…) but I have yet to be wowed by any dance number. There were “favorites” performed last night (at the concert) that were performed when it was just the top 18 and even top 20! So, I’m with Nigel now, and I’m waiting to be impressed.

So You Think You Can Dance 6: Top 14 Perform

Screen shot 2009-11-18 at 8.43.38 AMI can’t believe I’m admitting this, but some of my least favorite people are actually growing on me. My first favorite number of the night was Ashleigh and Jakob. (Who knew?!) But I think most of that is related to the fact that they got a Tabatha and Napolean Hip Hop routine. Seriously, those 2 make amazing routines. But, the girl (Ashleigh) is slowly growing on me. My other favorite was Channing and Victor. Another surprise. I absolutely loved the quirky bird jazz routine. But, on top of that, was that Nigel said it best. For the first time, Channing looked like she was having fun. So, she was actually a lot of fun to watch!

I liked a couple of the other routines as well, but they were forgettable. It certainly seemed that the obvious “bad” one was Kevin and Karen. Although I think it’s nice to hear feedback from the judges at the end of the night, I do feel like it’s more of a curse to the contestants. Having every judge state (before people vote) who they think will be in the bottom, will most likely make people not vote for that couple. I kind of think that’s Nigel’s way of trying to influence fans to vote for the best… not just their personal favorite. We’ll see.

I’m interested to see who else ends up in the bottom. If I had to guess, I would say Kathryn, Noelle, or possibly Ryan and Ellenore. It’s coming down to personalities now. And if I can’t remember (by the next morning) who they are, or what they danced, then they are clearly not stand-outs.

Who were your favorites, and who should go home tonight? Results on Fox, 8pm PST.

So You Think You Can Dance 6: Top 16

Screen shot 2009-11-17 at 11.14.50 AMIt’s been so long now, I can’t really remember every dance, but I wanted to make sure you all knew I was alive and still watching the show. Two weeks ago, 2 tappers went home… but I can’t say I was upset. As far as crowd appeal, and their routines, I felt it was deserved. This last week, the last of the tappers went home, along with Pauline.

Something that I do remember was how bluntly honest and even rude Nigel was, to mostly Nathan, but to all the dancers in the bottom. He complained that no one has lived up to Season 5 as of yet… especially when it comes to solos. Which I sort of agree with. However, I actually think the girls did well on their solos. But, as far as Nigel’s comments to Nathan, I thought he was just rude. He basically said that girls are voting for him just because of his good looks. And, not that I don’t agree, but come on, look what happened with Evan from last season! He made it to the top 4, and was clearly not the same caliber as the rest of them. And, even though he wasn’t getting votes based on looks, he was getting votes based on fans… which to me is exactly the same. Isn’t the point America’s Favorite Dancer? I think Nigel has just become bitter because he wants it to be about the best dancer.

Well, with that said, I’m looking forward to this week’s performances. Maybe it’s because I’ve been really busy, and I end up watching the show 3 days later, but I’m still not really attached to anyone. Oh, except I do really like Kathryn and Noelle. (I actually mix them up- I think they have similar looks when they dance, and in general.) And I do really like Russell. I could care less for Ryan. Especially after his “about me” profile- I’m pretty sure we all know he has muscles… but he sure didn’t hesitate to show off his body and all the outdoor sports he does. Gag.

The top 14 perform tonight, 8pm PST on Fox, and results air Wednesday, 8pm PST.

So You Think You Can Dance 6: Top 18

Screen shot 2009-11-04 at 11.50.19 AMWell, I was completely thrown off last week with a 2 hour episode, and eliminations happening the same night. I guess it’s a good way to really get the mediocre ones gone early… however, with last night’s episode being run the same way, I was actually annoyed. I don’t even vote this early, because I usually don’t care yet. But, I do think it’s slightly unfair, because no matter what happens with a dance routine, some people just happen to have a bigger fan base. And sometimes the fans just don’t agree with the judges.

I do agree that a couple of the routines were not great. Channing and Phillip were hard to watch. I kind of like Channing, but she seems so expressionless and lacking enthusiasm. In her interviews, on stage, being judged, etc. I don’t know… but I think people like that don’t get many fans, no matter how good they are. And I was just bored watching Bianca and Victor. And it was a high-energy routine. But I’ve never really been a fan of Bianca.

I understand that they had to put Noelle in the bottom, just because she didn’t dance last week. But, I do like her and Russell. And I definitely think she deserved to stay. And as sad as it was to see 2 tappers go home last night, especially for Nigel, I saw it coming. They just can’t wow the audience with their solos. That, and Bianca has always bugged me a little. (Partly because her body is very oddly proportioned. I think she has no neck and long arms.) Yes, I’m being quite judgmental today…sorry.

The rest were either good or great. I would comment on a lot more of the routines, but I just don’t know who people are yet. (Another reason the one night performance/elimination bugs me.) We just have not seen very much of the contestants to get a feel for them. I can’t say exactly what it is, but Ashleigh drives me crazy. And I can’t place what it is. Did anyone else think it was weird that they kissed at the beginning of the number? Hopefully next week we’ll start to get a better feel for the contestants. And hopefully next week will be a normal schedule.

So You Think You Can Dance 6: Meet the Top 20!

Screen shot 2009-10-27 at 10.26.25 AMLast night was something new, and I loved what they did. The top 20 dancers performed, in group numbers, in the their own styles, without risk of going home. And I actually thought it was a great way to start the show. When the first week arrives each season, I never feel like the dancers have had enough time to let their personalities show. And it seems so unfair to that first couple who goes home. At least this time they have 2 chances. And we’ve gotten to see what they’re best at, before they’re thrown into some rumba, disco, or Broadway routine.

So, if you missed last night, here’s a list of the top 20 dancers, by genre:
Hip Hop: Kevin, Russell, Legacy, *Brandon
Tap: Peter, Phillip, Bianca
Jazz: Ellenore, Mollee, Pauline
Ballroom: Ashleigh, Karen, Ryan
Contemporary: Ariana, Channing, Kathryn, Noelle, *Billy, Jakob, Nathan, Victor

*Just as I finished this post, I read that Billy has had to leave the competition due to illness, and Brandon (a hip hop dancer) will replace him in the top 20.

It’s hard to judge anything at this point, and I have certainly not picked my favorites. However, I do have a couple people who already bother me! Ashleigh- the wife of the ballroom couple. I never thought she was strong enough to make it to the top 20… and she seemed to slip in there by default. And I’m on the edge about the tappers, mostly Bianca. I think they’re great, but basically, they’re going to have to win votes by being great at the other genres. Like Nigel mentioned, they’ll never have the opportunity to dance tap with their partners… and I doubt a tapper will be able to “save” themselves by doing a tap routine.

Lastly, I just want to mention how young this group seems this season. Nine contestants are either 18 or 19. I think I may already miss my “seasoned” Melissa from this summer. I’m hopeful, as long as their dancing doesn’t keep reminding me how young they are.

So You Think You Can Dance season 6 airs tonight on Fox at 8pm PST, a 2-hour premiere. And voting will commence.

So You Think You Can Dance: And the Winner Is…

jeaninewins-blogIn 4th place: Kayla.
In 3rd place: Evan.
And America’s favorite dancer is… Jeanine!!

I thought she had a great chance, until I read people’s comments yesterday about Brandon being the one to beat. So, then I got a little worried. But my girl pulled out the win! I don’t know if you watched the results show, but every time Cat mentioned each finalist’s name, the cheers for Jeanine were significantly louder. So, I think she made a name for herself along the way, and “peaked at just the right time,” like the judges said. And one thing I love about Jeanine, and forgot to mention yesterday, is that I think she shows the most emotion in her body and her face as she dances all her numbers. I’m so happy for her!

Just a couple side notes about the show. I love it when they show “the best” routines from the season. However, I sat around for almost 2 hours waiting for any routine of Melissa or Ade’s. I know they like to showcase the finalists, but Janette performed 2 numbers last night… and only made it to the top 8. Melissa and Ade were in the top 6! Fortunately, they saved the BEST for last. I do they think they had other worthy numbers, but oh well. I know Kayla looked hot, but why did she do that routine (Samba?) with Max? I was unimpressed.

Anyway, I hope none of you are too disappointed with the results. I’m quite pleased… and I’m even more excited that I only have to wait a month for the next season to start! Yay for So You Think You Can Dance Season 6!

So You Think You Can Dance: Finale Performance

Picture 7Well, as I expected, I don’t think the show was as good as it could have been… I think had Ade been there instead of Evan, every dance that got “not so stellar” reviews would have been a lot better. It’s not like he’s bad… and the judges mentioned that. He’s fun, he’s lovable, he’s unique, he’s got personality, and they’ve never had anyone like him make it so far in the show… BUT, he’s just not at the same level as the other 3 dancers. And it showed in every routine he performed. He wasn’t as strong, powerful, hard-hitting, or impressive as Brandon. The dances he did with Jeanine and Kayla made me think- “that would have been better with someone else.” And his solo fell short too. (As did Kayla’s, I thought.) C’est la vie. If people like Evan, that’s great. But I think, and hope, he won’t win.

Hands down, Jeanine is my favorite and I really hope she wins. (Yes, Brandon is amazing, but I can’t stand his personality.) She has proven herself week after week, and as Adam mentioned, she has been the dark horse. (Hmmm, anyone remember Kris Allen from American Idol?) Oh, and I have to mention that I love it when Adam is a judge. He is always so positive and excited. But I was glad when he was truthful about not loving some of the routines. You can’t love ‘em all.

I didn’t mention any specific routines, so really quickly I want to say that my favorite number was the girls’, who performed Mia Michaels’ routine. She (Mia) never ceases to amaze me. I can’t believe the concepts she can portray through movement. That was my favorite number of the night, and although I wish Melissa would have been up there Jeanine, Kayla and Jeanine were absolutely lovely, and they proved why they made it to the finale.

Good luck to everyone (mostly Jeanine) and I can’t wait to see who wins tonight! Results are on Fox, tonight, at 8pm PST. (2-hour finale)

So You Think You Can Dance: Top 6 Results

Damn!

Melissa and Ade went home…

So You Think You Can Dance: Top 6 Perform

Picture 3I don’t know what to say… after watching that, I’m actually left feeling a little annoyed and disappointed. First, I really don’t like Lil’ C. I can’t stand the comments he makes. He’s way too long-winded, tries to sound really smart, and always uses pointless analogies. And on top of that, it bugs me how critical he is. I know that’s the judges’ job. But he never sounds like he even wants to give a compliment. The start of his compliments even sound like critiques.

On top of that, I’m more just upset because my favorite people didn’t get good critiques. And I think that’s mostly due to their partnerships and genres of dance they drew. Melissa was paired with Evan. Of the guys left, Evan has gotten the most negative critiques. And on top of that, they got broadway and quick-step. No offense, but neither of those dances are usually exciting to watch. (And they always rip on Evan when he does broadway because “he should be able to do it much better.”) I actually thought it was pretty cute. Whatever…

Then Ade and Jeanine were paired together, doing the samba and then hip-hop. I thought the Samba was sexy, especially Jeanine. (Maybe I’m biased). But I think they ripped on Ade more than they needed. And I thought their hip-hop was great, but I felt like Lil’ C ruined whatever nice things were said by his negative attitude.

And then there was Kayla and Brandon. I can’t deny that both of them are amazing dancers. However, I just have never liked Brandon… I can’t place what it is, but he has always bugged me. He mentioned not being that confident, but I think his lack of confidence has shown as the opposite, and occasionally comes off as being cocky. Of course, they got a contemporary (which the routine itself was not that impressive, but everyone loves a good contemporary) and then an upbeat disco. Personally (yes, I’m sorry I’m biased) I thought all the tricks by the end of the routine were choppy, and felt thrown in there to look impressive. So, I was bugged that they were the only ones to get fabulous reviews by all. (But, yes, Brandon’s solo was great. Ugh!)

I really hope people considered everything from the beginning. I really think it should be Evan to go. I do think he has a great personality, but he has never excelled like the rest. And I can’t help but think that had it been Jason in the final 6, Melissa would have been more equally matched. Plus, when they perform next week with each person, Evan seems to be the one that doesn’t fit.

As far as girls go, I will be sad whoever goes. (I wish the girls could all make it, and have 2 guys go home instead.) I just can’t part with Melissa or Jeanine. They have truly been my favorite 2 dancers since day 1. I know Kayla is fabulous, but I just love the others more. *sigh* We’ll see what happens tonight.

Oh, I almost forgot to mention- I LOVED both the guys’ number and the girls’. Of course, Lil’ C wasn’t very impressed, but I thought they were all fabulous and showed that they did all deserve to be there last night!

How did you like the show? I hope some of you enjoyed it more than I did. I apologize for my bitter entry. It just better be an amazing finale next week!

So You Think You Can Dance: Top 8 Perform

Picture 2The problem with shows like this, is that when you are so impressed from the beginning, as the show progresses, you expect so much more every week. And the first half seemed to prove that. No one was bad, but I just wasn’t blown away. Clearly, Nigel thought so too.

However, everything that the show lacked in the first half, Ellen made up for completely! Wasn’t she absolutely hilarious?! It helps that she’s just about one of my favorite people. But, I don’t think anyone can deny that every time she opened her mouth, you couldn’t help but laugh.

Fortunately, the second half was a major improvement. Jeanine and Brandon’s number kicked it off. It was awesome!! I also loved Jason and Kayla’s second piece. And I literally cried by the end of Melissa and Ade’s contemporary piece about breast cancer. I don’t mean to veer from the topic, but one of the reasons I love Melissa so much is that she seems to have a fabulous husband. Not many guys could come and watch their wife be utterly romantic and sensual with another guy. He has been so supportive and is obviously so proud of her. How cool that he was there holding a breast cancer poster.

I know I didn’t mention a lot about the dances. But it’s now to the point that people are voting for their favorite person. So, whether someone deserves to go or not, I don’t think I could even guess who’s going home next. If I were to pick my least favorites (based SOLELY on personality) it would be Brandon and Janette. However, as far as dancing goes, I think either Evan or Jason should go. Jason impressed me last week, but his solo has never been good! For once, I actually think all the girls are on the same level. Janette’s solo didn’t impress me at all last night, and I loved the other 3. But overall, she has been amazing. For the first time, I actually voted last night. (For Melissa, Jeanine, and Ade.) If any one of my favorites goes home tonight, I at least feel like I did my part.

Who do you think it’s going to be tonight? Watch the results at 9pm PST, on Fox.

So You Think You Can Dance: Top 10 Results

Picture 3I have never been more nervous watching a results show. What the heck happened? Why were the 2 best dancers (yes, my opinion) in the bottom 4?! Ade has been fabulous! And he’s fun, cool, different, and has great personality. The judges hinted that Melissa hasn’t shown enough… I’m not sure if they mean dancing or personality. But either way, I disagree. I think she’s been awesome.

So, anyway, apparently this is my wake-up call that if I’m going to be this upset about one of them going home, I’m going to have to start calling. That way I can at least feel like I did my part in contributing. (I seriously almost didn’t want to watch next week if they went home.)

Instead, it was Kupono and Randi who got the boot. I’m definitely not surprised about Kupono. He’s only had a couple dances that I’ve really liked. And he’s never impressed me with any solo he’s performed. It was his time. Randi, on the other hand, seemed like a crap-shoot. All the girls left are fantastic! I think it will be a toss-up every week to see which one of them goes home. (I just don’t want it to be Melissa or Jeanine.) What do you think?

I’m quite excited about next week! Two of my favorite things put together- So You Think You Can Dance, and Ellen DeGeneres! Ellen will be a guest judge next week. I can only imagine how funny it’s going to be. Watch with me Wednesday, 8pm PST on Fox.

So You Think You Can Dance: Top 10 Perform

Picture 6This is definitely a worthy top 10. I know I was a little bitter about Phillip leaving, but looking at it all around, he couldn’t stand up to the other guys in any other genre. And although I loved Jeanine and he together, she and Jason were absolutely fabulous last night! And I felt like I finally saw some “new” contemporary choreography. Hands-down, my favorite of the night.

My other favorite was Ade and Janette. I’ve never been a huge fan of Janette. (Not because I don’t like her, but just because I like others more.) However, she has not performed one bad number. And I just love Ade. He is my pick for the guys.

Overall, I really didn’t think any number was bad, but I just didn’t feel Randi and Kupono’s Paso Doble. And the judges apparently didn’t either. If I had to guess, I think it will be Kupono going home for the guys.

To be honest, I actually don’t care which guy goes home… except for Ade. I think he’s fabulous, and he’s got the personality. And as for the girls, my favorites are Melissa and Jeanine. I’m only concerned for Melissa, because she was in the bottom 3 last week. (Not sure how that happened!) Kayla is wonderful, but I just don’t think she’s made a name for herself. We’ll see…

Watch the results with me tonight, 9pm PST, on Fox. If anyone’s with me, tickets for the tour go on sale July 25th!

So You Think You Can Dance: Top 12 Dancers Perform

Picture 4I’m posting again for Elaine today.  This is another show where everything kind of blurs together for me but I just watched the recap at the end so hopefully I can pull this together for you guys.

First of, Mia Michaels has done it again.  That routine by Kupono and Kayla was freaking amazing.  I could feel it.  I could feel Kopono as the addiction holding on to Kayla and totally smug about her coming back.  I could feel it and it terrified me.  I was so scared for Kayla and wondering how she was ever going to get out of it’s hold.  Absolutely incredible.  I was so moved for Kupono that the routine touched him so deeply.  I was moved by the whole thing.

In case you didn’t catch it last night this is the last week these couples will be together which breaks my heart.  I feel like Kupono and Kayla have finally come into their own.  And I can’t picture Randi with anybody  but Evan.  He’s so little how is he going to partner with anyone else?  It’s like the world’s turning upside down.

Besides Kupono and Kayla my favorite couple is Melissa and Ade.  I like that Melissa is kind of the underdog because of her age.  I think they have done so well together.  Really complimented each other the whole way through.

Even though I’m not a fan of either of theirs I think Brandon and Janette are definitely the best couple.  They’ve done everything they’ve been asked to do beautifully.  They both just drive me crazy for some reason so I hope every week that they slip up somehow but they never do.

I’m really afraid that Phillip is going home tonight.  I don’t see how it could be anybody else and that breaks my heart.  Maybe Kupono, maybe Evan but I don’t know.  I don’t know about the girls either.  I hope it’s Caitlin because I’ve never gotten into her.  Well, that’s not true.  I loved the Bollywood routine, but other than that she’s kind of been a nobody to me.

Who do you think is going home tonight?

SYTYCD results show will be on Thursday at 9pm on FOX.

So You Think You Can Dance: Top 16 Perform

picture-5I don’t know about you, but I just haven’t been as impressed as I was the first week. The first week everyone was amazing, the second week had a few couples who deserved the bottom, and last night I could see 5 couples who might be in the bottom. It’s not that they were bad… they just didn’t “wow” me.

My absolute favorite couple (and has yet to prove me wrong) is Melissa and Ade. That was a smokin’ hot Rumba. Both of them looked amazing, are beautiful dancers, and I just love them as a couple. My other favorite couple is Randi and Evan. And of course, I love everything that Mia Michaels does. So, last night their dance was my second pick.

My third favorite couple is Jeanine and Phillip. But, only because they made such an impression on me the first week, I just think they’re so cute! I do think Jeanine is a much better dancer than she gets credit for. And I’m really pulling for Phillip to step it up and improve the other styles. (I actually thought their routine was pretty cute, and they got ripped on… so who knows if they’re safe!)

Other than those, I’m undecided about the rest. I think Kayla and Kupono did really well. (Much better than he did the previous week.) The judges loved Jason and Caitlin, but I just didn’t think it was that amazing. I’ve seen much more hard-hitting, powerful Paso Doble’s than that. I love Vitolio, but something about Asuka bothers me. (I think it’s the emotional, helpless girl thing.) I think Brandon and Janette always do well. I did love their rocker/pop routine. But their personalities haven’t got me hooked. And finally, Karla and Jonathan… I felt worse for them than any other couple. I like that Nigel is honest. But, I actually thought he was pretty mean. They’re routine wasn’t great- but I didn’t think it deserved the lashing they got. (I think they were both crying by the end of it…)

So, who were your favorites and who’s going home? Clearly, I’m just not on the same page as the judges this season. But if I got to pick the bottom, it would be Jonathan/Karla, Caitlin/Jason, and Asuka/Vitolio. (They just weren’t in sync.)

Watch the results with me tonight at 9pm PST on Fox.

So You Think You Can Dance: Top 18 Results

max-ashley-blogI just realized (yes, it was a crazy week last week) that I never posted about the results of the top 18! So, now that I’ve totally forgotten everything I was going to say, including who even went home, maybe some of you can refresh my memory!

What I do remember is that Max and Kayla were in the bottom 3- totally undeserved, I thought. They were joined by Kupono and Ashley, and Caitlin and Jason. I really didn’t think Caitlin did as well as they gave her credit for. And I thought she should have gone home. (However, they did mention that part of the reason they kept her was because of her great Bollywood routine the week before.) Once they saved Caitlin, we knew it had to be Ashley going. Kayla IS freaking amazing… She just hasn’t shown much personality, and I think we might see her in the bottom again if she doesn’t show us a heart-wrenching performance.

As for the guys, I really think Kupono should have gone home. Even though Max is a “ballroomer,” I thought his solo kicked butt. That was one of the best ballroom solos I’ve seen. I think he got robbed. :( Kupono had better step it up and show that he deserved to stay. I don’t remember him doing anything noteworthy. And now that I think about it, since Kayla and Kupono will be paired up, I can definitely see Kupono holding Kayla back.

So, apparently, I was 0 for 2 last week. Let’s hope I do better this week.

Watch the top 16 perform tonight, 8pm PST, on Fox.

picture-4Well, I still thought (just about) everyone was great last night! However, I can’t say I was nearly as blown away as last week.

I just loved Randi and Evan from the start. No matter what Mary said to them about technique (which I totally expected from her) I still thought they were so much fun to watch! They are definitely up there as one of my favorite couples. I also just love Vitolio. But I don’t really care that much for Asuka. Their dance was beautiful and emotional! (Despite not being quite as technical either.) And my other favorite was Karla and Jonathan. But I think it’s just because I love the contemporary style. There are very few contemporary routines I don’t like. And I think they got lucky in getting a good genre this week to redeem themselves from the bottom last week.

Then there were a few dances that I didn’t love (but I love the dancers, and they still got good critiques.) I.e. Melissa and Ade’s funky jazz routine, and Kayla and Max’s (I can’t remember what style) routine. I don’t think either deserve to be in the bottom, but I just didn’t connect with their dances, and I wonder if America will agree.

I actually only thought one dance was bad- Caitlin and Jason’s hip hop! I knew from the beginning that Caitlin couldn’t hit hard enough. Of anyone, they deserve the bottom 3 tonight. And as much as I love Phillip, I think he and Jeanine deserve the bottom as well. I really don’t want them to go home, but their dance just wasn’t good! Sad! :( I have NO clue who else should or even will end up in the bottom. The judges really didn’t like Ashley and Kupono, but I thought they did well. Especially compared to the other terrible hip hop routine. (I did feel bad for Shane Sparks- whose routines both got ripped on…)

So, who were your favorites? Who deserves to go home this week?

So You Think You Can Dance: Top 20 Results

picture-22I promise I’ll be better next week, and I’ll blog before the results show as well as after.

So, this had to have been the BEST first show in the history of SYTYCD. The dancers, the choreography, the music, it was all amazing! By the end of a season, I never think I’ll like anyone in the next season as much as the previous. And I love that I’m frequently proven wrong.

So, quickly, I’m just going to comment on my favorite (and subsequently least favorite) numbers, and then we’ll get to results. I absolutely LOVED the first number. It was a hip-hop routine by Phillip and Jeanine, choreographed by Tabatha and Napolean. (I love them!) And it was awesome!! It totally reminded me of last seasons’ “Bleeding Love.” Anyway, I had no idea who Jeanine was before, but I’m a big fan.

My other favorite was the contemporary piece, choreographed by Mandy Moore, performed by Melissa and Ade. If you don’t remember, Melissa is the 29-year-old “oldie,” who is trained as a ballerina. The routine was absolutely beautiful, emotional, and there was a move with Melissa in the splits on Ade’s shoulders that I had to watch 2 more times because I was so impressed. Again, they were a couple I had no idea about before Wednesday.

I still think everyone was impressive, but if I had to pick my least favorites of the night, it would be the broadway routine by Asuka and Vitolio, (I totally love Vitolio) and the other hip-hop routine performed by Paris and Tony. It wasn’t that either one was bad. It’s just that A. Performing a broadway routine on the first night is just not going to tug at your heart like an emotional contemporary or hip-hop. And B. If you happened to follow an incredible number, you’re at a disadvantage. For Paris and Tony, it just didn’t do it for me. Comparing it to the first hip-hop routine, they just didn’t come close.

Ultimately, since you’ve probably watched the results by now, we know that Paris and Tony went home. And, to be honest, that’s exactly who I thought deserved to go. Tony was the one who barely scraped by in getting a place in the top 20, and I think it was pretty apparent in both his performance and dancing for his life that he was not in the same category as the rest of them. In dancing for their lives, I thought Vitolio was amazing, (which the judges apparently didn’t agree with) and Asuka, (who dances ballroom, which is difficult to dance for your life alone) performed the best of the girls. I was surprised to see they saved Karla first.

Well, I can only imagine how much better it’s going to get!!
